The return of fracking is just one piece of a larger energy and economy plan Truss is pursuing in her first weeks since gaining office. Her administration also announced a national freeze on household energy prices, a plan that will cost the government tens of billions. Under Truss's plan, household energy costs will be limited to $2,900 per year after ballooning to $4,100 in 2022. The other suspect in the killings, Sanderson's 30-year-old brother, Damien Sanderson, was found dead Monday.  "This evening our province is breathing a collective sigh of relief," Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore, commander of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Saskatchewan, said at a news conference Wednesday night.  Blackmore said Myles Sanderson was cornered in Rosthern – about an hour and 20-minute drive from the James Cree Smith Nation -- as police units responded to a report of a stolen vehicle being driven by a man ...

Putin says the US and West are failing, claims future lies in Asia

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday took direct aim at the U.S. and claimed its "sanction inferno" was destroying Western influence and solidifying Asia as the future powerhouse. In an address to world leaders at the East Economic Forum, the Kremlin chief claimed that Washington’s "waning dominance" was the reason the U.S. and its European allies had hit Moscow with severe sanctions following its invasion of Ukraine.  "Western countries are seeking to preserve yesterday’s world order," Putin claimed in a speech that centered on his belief that Moscow has been economically targeted as an attempt to restore U.S. dominance at the cost of European success, not as a repercussion to his deadly war.  PUTIN, XI TO MEET FACE TO FACE NEXT WEEK IN FIRST MEETING SINCE WAR IN UKRAINE "Europe is about to throw its achievements in building up its manufacturing capability, the quality of life of its people and socioeconomic stability into the...

Ukrainian officials say Russian shelling in the area of Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is continuing to rage on despite a report from the International Atomic Energy Agency on Tuesday warning about potential "catastrophic" damage taking place at the site. The city of Nikopol, located on the opposite bank of the Dnieper River from Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, was fired on with rockets and heavy artillery, regional governor Valentyn Reznichenko said on Wednesday. "There are fires, blackouts and other things at the (plant) that force us to prepare the local population for the consequences of the nuclear danger," Reznichenko said. Officials in recent days have distributed iodine pills to residents to help protect them in the event of a radiation leak. Reports of the shelling, which could not be independently verified by The Associated Press, come the day after IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi presented a report to the United Nations warn...

The report comes as the Biden administration reportedly closed in on a renewed nuclear deal with Iran in recent weeks, though talks have stalled in the last 24 hours and the European Union's chief negotiator has attempted to downplay speculation that a deal could be close. ‘CATASTROPHIC’ IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL COULD LIFT SANCTIONS ON KILLERS OF US MARINES IN LEBANON According to a Times of Israel report Wednesday, President Biden assured Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid that a deal with Iran is not close and that the U.S. would not be signing one for the foreseeabl...

Putin releases foreign policy strategy based on 'Russian world' doctrine

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed off on a new foreign policy plan Monday that is based on a "Russian world" concept which relies on radical policies like those used to justify Moscow’s war in Ukraine.  In a 31-page document dubbed a "humanitarian policy," Moscow has made it official doctrine to "protect, safeguard and advance the traditions and ideals of the Russian World," according to a translation by Reuters.  Though the idea was presented as a new soft-power strategy for Moscow, the hardliner concept has now been enshrined into Russia’s official foreign policy approach. US SAYS RUSSIA PURCHASING ROCKETS, ARTILLERY SHELLS FROM NORTH KOREA The document reportedly said Moscow will deepen its ties with ethnic Russians living in abroad, particularly in former Soviet Union nations that separated from the USSR in the 1990s. US says Russia purchasing rockets, artillery shells from North Korea

The Russian Ministry of Defense is reportedly in the process of buying millions of rockets and artillery shells from North Korea to support its continued war on Ukraine, according to new U.S. intelligence. A U.S. official said Monday that Russia looking to the isolated state of North Korea shows that the Russian military "continues to suffer from severe supply shortages in Ukraine, due in part to export controls and sanctions." U.S. intelligence officials said Russia may later try to purchase more military equipment from North Korea. Russian troops in Ukraine facing 'morale and discipline' issues due to problems with pay, UK says

Russian forces in Ukraine are suffering from "morale and discipline issues" that are at least partly due to problems with their compensation, the UK Ministry of Defense said.  The Russian side has taken heavy losses more than six months into their invasion, prompting Putin last month to order an increase in the number of military forces by 137,000 to about 1.15 million.  Members of the Russian military receive a modest base salary with a "complex variety of bonuses and allowances," the UK Ministry of Defense said, but there have likely been problems with the payouts of those combat bonuses so far.  "This is probably due to inefficient military bureaucracy , the unusual legal status of the ‘special military operation’, and at least some outright corruption [among] commanders," the UK Ministry of Defense said.  UKRAINE'S NUCLEAR AGENCY WARNS RISK OF HYDROGEN, RADIOACTIVE LEAKS FOLLOWING DAMAGE TO ZAPORIZHZHIA PLANT It's not the first time that...
