UK Prime Minister Liz Truss ends national ban on fracking amid energy crisis

U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss ended England's ban on fracking Thursday, opening the door to domestic shale gas production amid a European energy crisis. The return of fracking is just one piece of a larger energy and economy plan Truss is pursuing in her first weeks since gaining office. Her administration also announced a national freeze on household energy prices, a plan that will cost the government tens of billions. Under Truss's plan, household energy costs will be limited to $2,900 per year after ballooning to $4,100 in 2022. The U.K. and other European countries have faced a worsening energy crisis due to heavy dependence on oil and gas imports from Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin limited exports to Europe after NATO countries imposed severe economic sanctions on the county for its invasion of Ukraine. Canada manhunt ends as mass stabbing suspect Myles Sanderson dies from self-inflicted wounds, official says

The suspect wanted in connection to a stabbing spree that left 10 dead in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan has died from self-inflicted injuries after police tracked down the stolen car he was traveling in along a highway, an official says.  The death of Myles Sanderson, 32, brings an end to the massive manhunt launched Sunday following the string of attacks in the James Smith Cree First Nation reserve and nearby town of Weldon. The other suspect in the killings, Sanderson's 30-year-old brother, Damien Sanderson, was found dead Monday.  "This evening our province is breathing a collective sigh of relief," Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore, commander of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Saskatchewan, said at a news conference Wednesday night.  Blackmore said Myles Sanderson was cornered in Rosthern – about an hour and 20-minute drive from the James Cree Smith Nation -- as police units responded to a report of a stolen vehicle being driven by a man ...

Blinken makes surprise visit to Kyiv to announce $2B military aid for Ukraine, Europe

Secretary of State Antony Blinken made an unscheduled visit to Kyiv Thursday to announce a $2 billion military aid package for Ukraine and other European nations threatened by Russia. Blinken told top Ukrainian officials that the latest package will provide long-term financing for military aid to Ukraine along with 18 NATO members and regional security partners "most potentially at risk for future Russian aggression." It is unclear if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was present for the meetings and Fox News Digital could not immediately reach the State Department for comment.  WHO ARE PUTIN'S ALLIES? RUSSIAN LEADER LOOKS TO ASIA FOR HELP The announcement comes just hours after Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the U.S. approved another $675 million in heavy armament for Ukraine’s forces. The package, separate from the military financing package announced by Blinken, will provide Kyiv with howitzers, artillery munitions, Humvees, armored ambulances, anti-t...

Putin says the US and West are failing, claims future lies in Asia

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday took direct aim at the U.S. and claimed its "sanction inferno" was destroying Western influence and solidifying Asia as the future powerhouse. In an address to world leaders at the East Economic Forum, the Kremlin chief claimed that Washington’s "waning dominance" was the reason the U.S. and its European allies had hit Moscow with severe sanctions following its invasion of Ukraine.  "Western countries are seeking to preserve yesterday’s world order," Putin claimed in a speech that centered on his belief that Moscow has been economically targeted as an attempt to restore U.S. dominance at the cost of European success, not as a repercussion to his deadly war.  PUTIN, XI TO MEET FACE TO FACE NEXT WEEK IN FIRST MEETING SINCE WAR IN UKRAINE "Europe is about to throw its achievements in building up its manufacturing capability, the quality of life of its people and socioeconomic stability into the...

Ukraine says Russian shelling continues near nuclear plant despite UN warning of 'catastrophic' event

Ukrainian officials say Russian shelling in the area of Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is continuing to rage on despite a report from the International Atomic Energy Agency on Tuesday warning about potential "catastrophic" damage taking place at the site. The city of Nikopol, located on the opposite bank of the Dnieper River from Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, was fired on with rockets and heavy artillery, regional governor Valentyn Reznichenko said on Wednesday. "There are fires, blackouts and other things at the (plant) that force us to prepare the local population for the consequences of the nuclear danger," Reznichenko said. Officials in recent days have distributed iodine pills to residents to help protect them in the event of a radiation leak. Reports of the shelling, which could not be independently verified by The Associated Press, come the day after IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi presented a report to the United Nations warn...

Nuclear watchdog warns Iranian nuclear program might not be 'exclusively peaceful'

The UN's International Atomic Energy Agency released a report outlining the progress Iran's nuclear program has made, warning that the agency cannot determine that the country's nuclear aims are "exclusively peaceful." "The Agency is not in a position to provide assurance that Iran's nuclear programme is exclusively peaceful," said the report released Wednesday, according to Reuters. The report comes as the Biden administration reportedly closed in on a renewed nuclear deal with Iran in recent weeks, though talks have stalled in the last 24 hours and the European Union's chief negotiator has attempted to downplay speculation that a deal could be close. ‘CATASTROPHIC’ IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL COULD LIFT SANCTIONS ON KILLERS OF US MARINES IN LEBANON According to a Times of Israel report Wednesday, President Biden assured Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid that a deal with Iran is not close and that the U.S. would not be signing one for the foreseeabl...
